It is just 70 km (44 miles) from San Jose and about 22 km (14 miles) from the popular town of Jaco.

One day tour-Sarapiquí

Sarapiquí is a quiet town, located in the Heredia Province of Costa Rica.
It’s a birders and photographers dream location due to the abundance of locations for exceptional bird watching and great photo opportunities.
There are three districts in Sarapiquí, La Virgen, Horquetas, and Puerto Viejo (not to be confused with the Caribean beach town) and two rivers, the Sarapiquí River and Puerto Viejo River.
The combination of the two rivers, farmland, and most importantly, untouched primary rain forest has created a paradise for birds and wildlife.
Since Sarapiquí is only about two and a half hours from San Jose, it is easy to include the area in any birding trip plans.

One day tour -Tapantí National Park

Found around 1.5 hours drive from the city of San José, Tapantí has long been recognized as one of the better sites for cloud forest species in Costa Rica. Many local bird watchers have made trips to Tapantí to look for a variety of scarce middle elevation species including Scaled and Ochre-breasted Antpittas, Tawny-throated Leaftosser, foliage-gleaners, Golden-bellied Flycatcher, Dark Pewee, and many others.

No matter how much experience one might have in bird watching, this is a wonderful national park always good for a productive and fun day.
